Nauvoo, Illinois.. on our way to Utah

By the way, our new granddaughter has a name...
WENDY Hazelton Cheney
Pictures to come!!!

Ron and I DROVE to Utah this year for Christmas
with a few stops along the way.
Our first day was an 11 hour trip to Nauvoo, Illinois.
We arrived before the sun went down
when the temple looked like this!

We took a quick tour of the visitor center
which was unusually quiet.
We usually visit Nauvoo in the summer when it is bustling.
This was a nice change!

Ken and Irene Shaw met us there!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We went to the temple together...

and then we went to the live show put on by the senior missionaries!
It was fabulous.
They allowed us to take pictures with no flash...

Then the Shaw's ran off to the airport to pick up their daughter coming home from college!
We had a wonderful time together!!!!

We stayed at the Willard Richard's Inn which was fabulous!!!!
We recommend this place highly!
Here is the living room where Ken and Irene had hot chocolate with us!

On site is a copy of the death mask of Joseph Smith Jr. and his brother Hyrum Smith.

Willard Richards (whose home we stayed in)
was in the jail with them at the time of their death but was unharmed.

We climbed 2 flights of stairs to what used to be the attic of
Willard Richards home.
First flight...

2nd flight...
And at the top of these stairs are 2 rooms.
We stayed in the Nauvoo Room!

From our window we could see the temple.
(across the street is the stage for the pageant)

Some other rooms in the house were available for pictures
because we were the only ones there!

There are several alcoves as well...

Before we left our hosts gave us a tour of the basement...

Our wonderful hosts...

What a great way to start our trip!
