House Improvements

Surely after you see these photos, 

you will want to  jump right into a BIG house project!

NOT!

This was so much work!

While Michael was home for Thanksgiving

he helped us with the new hardwood floor!

Here is the old hardwood floor... facing the back door...

 At the time we built this home 21 years ago, we thought it was 

so smart to continue the hardwood to the back door.  And it was!

We realized it should have been wider!

It has yellowed over time.

Here it is facing the front door

Wouldn't it be nice to be a bit wider?

Then there was the dining room.  

It was carpeted from the beginning?

What were we thinking?  I know, we were saving money

Time to take out the carpet

and screw down the floor boards so there are no squeaks!

Do you hear that - no squeaks!

Half of that carpet was then used in the

eaves where we keep all the Christmas decorations and suitcases.

It's so nice in there now! 

That was a project in and of itself!

MICHAEL was a HUGE help!

Time to tear up a portion of the old floor

In the meantime, the hardwood guy and his son were putting

down the new hardwood in the dining room!

They used some of the old flooring to blend in, then sanded it all down,

taking the finish off of the old hardwood !

We love the new color - Early American

The walkway to the back door is much wider now!

And we squared off the part that goes to the basement.

Then it was time for new carpet.

But first Ron screwed (not nailed) the floor boards down tight!

No squeaks here!

Where is all the furniture you might ask?

Well, it's right here!

But then the handrails didn't match the new stain

so Ron took that project on - that was a big one!

New carpet went in  shortly thereafter

and everything was done right before the piano recital in our home!

Ron repainted all the white spindles as well.

Yes, this is the same carpet - just looks different in different lighting.

Now on to the next project.
